Financial Accountant

Job Description

Venture Recruitment Partners are working with a manufacturing business based in Southampton in their recruitment for a Financial Accountant on an initial 3-4 month contract. 

Reporting into the Financial Controller, this is an exciting role which gives insight into all areas of finance. You will work closely with the finance team and be the first point of contact for financial accounting-related matters.

Responsibilities of the Financial Accountant:

  • Responsible for multi-currency bank and cashflow planning and reporting
  • Overall management and monitoring of creditors & debtors and supporting the AP accounts assistant
  • Payroll support and data review before monthly BACS payment
  • Completion of quarterly VAT returns and other regulatory requirements
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and reporting & forecasting capex projects 
  • Preparation of the monthly P&L, balance sheet reconciliations and month end close activities
  • Statutory accounts preparation locally (FRS102) and for Group (IFRS), key liaison with external auditors, providing information requested as well as internal controls development
  • Close involvement with annual budgeting process and forecasting
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting
  • Contribution to finance related projects and ongoing system developments

Key skills and experience of the Financial Accountant:

  • Wide level of financial accounting knowledge and thorough understanding of management information systems
  • Very strong Excel skills and great attention to detail
  • Strong team player but also able to work calmly under own initiative and handle multiple work streams simultaneously and effectively
  • Reliable, organised and able to meet tight deadlines with strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly structured approach to analysis, record keeping, and presentation of outputs
  • A positive can-do attitude, strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Fosters functional and cross-functional relationships between departments and sites
  • Drives best practice and process efficiencies
  • Experience working with the stabilisation of new finance system implementations would be beneficial but not essential
