On the 19th of June, we hosted Venture Recruitment Partners' fourth Women in Business event, this time at Carnival House in Southampton. Joined by female leaders working in HR, recruitment and finance, it was a relaxed evening of thought-provoking discussion, insight and networking,
The speaker was Emma Smith, Vice President Digital at Carnival UK, who explored the topic of 'Building High-Performing Teams that Actually Deliver', broken down into 3 sections:
Working Backwards:
Emma discussed the power of working backwards and imagining your end goal or product, understanding what you need to do today to achieve it. Emma's PR:FAQ framework sets out steps you can take to help you do this:
Write a press release about your end goal, what’s the problem and the solution?
Compile a list of FAQs with detailed answers to questions you might get asked about your end goal.
Create visuals that bring your end goal to life
Team:
Focus your teams on impact rather than activity and provide them with all the skills they need to deliver.
And if you can’t feed your team on 2 pizzas, break down your teams!
Funding:
Move away from project to persistent funding. Rather than working on a case-by-case basis and slowing new projects down, release funding as projects hit their milestones and review quarterly.
There was high praise for Emma's talk:
“Emma was excellent - very impressive and informative. Will definitely be taking away some top tips.”
“Really interesting, Emma was such an engaging speaker with great advice.”
“Great talk from Emma Smith about tangible points and tools to implement into driving change and collaborating with teams.”
“PR:FAQ was new to me and a great way to apply vision board concept (that I use for personal life) at work.”
Thank you to everybody who attended the latest installment of the Venture Women in Business event. We can't wait to see you at the next one!
