Senior Financial Accountant

About the Role
Venture Recruitment Partners is thrilled to have partnered with a prestigious organisation in Basingstoke who is looking to recruit an accomplished Senior Financial Accountant to take ownership of financial reporting, capital accounting and balance sheet integrity across its core business and subsidiary entities.
This is a highly visible role, sitting at the heart of financial governance and long-term investment planning, offering the opportunity to influence strategy, work closely with senior leaders and lead a specialist finance team.
The Opportunity
You will lead the production of monthly and year-end financial accounts for the Group, ensuring compliance with UK and international accounting standards and maintaining a strong, well-controlled balance sheet. Alongside this, you will play a central role in capital planning, forecasting and reporting, supporting investment decisions over a three-to-five-year horizon.
The role combines technical excellence with commercial and strategic insight. You will partner with directors, project leads and subsidiary boards to develop business plans, support growth and ensure financial governance is robust, transparent and fit for purpose.
You will also be the organisation’s lead for VAT and statutory reporting, working closely with external advisors and auditors to ensure compliance, maximise recovery and deliver clean, well-evidenced audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for the Group and its subsidiaries
- Own the integrity of the balance sheet, including non-current assets, provisions and liabilities
- Lead capital planning, forecasting and reporting, including three-to-five-year investment plans
- Provide clear, insightful reporting to Boards and senior leadership on capital spend and variances
- Act as the lead contact for external and internal auditors
- Manage VAT accounting, recovery and compliance, supported by external advisers
- Develop and maintain capital accounting, transfer pricing and charging policies
- Support subsidiary boards with financial planning and commercial decision-making
- Ensure all statutory and regulatory financial returns are delivered accurately and on time
- Deputise for the Head of Financial Accounts when required
- Lead, develop and motivate a small specialist finance team
What We’re Looking For
You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong experience in financial accounting, audit and capital or fixed-asset accounting within a large, complex organisation. You will be confident working at senior level, able to explain complex financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders and comfortable balancing technical rigour with commercial insight.
You will bring:
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (UK GAAP and/or IFRS)
- Experience of leading audits and working with external auditors
- A track record in balance sheet management and capital accounting
- Sound VAT knowledge, ideally including advisory or recovery work
- The ability to lead, coach and develop a finance team
- A proactive, improvement-focused mindset with high professional integrity
